Occupation Permit

The Occupation Permit (OP) serves as both a work and residence permit, enabling foreign nationals to both live and work in Mauritius within three distinct categories, namely: 1. Investor; 2. Professional 3. Self-Employed.

Occupational Permit as Investor (OPI)

Criteria

The minimum investment required by a foreign investor is USD50,000 or a minimum of USD25,000 in cash and the remaining value in the form of hi-tech machines, generating a minimum annual turnover of MUR 4 M (approx. USD 87,000) as from the 3rd year of operation for renewal of the OPI.

Validity

10 years & renewable thereafter as long as all criteria are met.

Occupational Permit as Self- employed (OPS)

Criteria

OPS is limited to foreign individuals offering professional services in Mauritius e.g., specialist doctors, alternative medicine sole practitioners, architects, consultants, etc.

The minimum investment required is USD 35,000, generating a minimum annual turnover of MUR 800,000 (approx. USD 17,000) as from the 3rd year of operation.

Validity

10 years max. & renewable thereafter as long as all criteria are met.

Occupational Permit as Professional (OPP)

Criteria

The foreign worker must be employed by a Company in Mauritius and drawing a minimum salary of MUR 30,000/month (approx. USD 700/month) to be eligible. Relevant qualifications and experience for the job are also necessary. The duration of the permit (maximum 10 years) will depend on the length of the employment contract and is renewable.

Validity

10 years & renewable thereafter as long as all criteria are met.

Family Occupation Permit (FOP)

Criteria

A contribution of USD 250,000 or its equivalent to the government’s COVID-19 Projects Development Fund is required. Under FOP, the applicant, his/her spouse, dependent child, parent, other dependent or those working exclusively for the family unit can apply to reside in Mauritius for a period of 10 years

Validity

10 years & renewable thereafter as long as all criteria are met.
